Councillor for the Maxfield Division, the People’s National Party’s, PNP, Dennis Gordon, has recused himself from the Building and Town Planning Committee of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, KSAMC.

He has also given up the chair of the municipality’s Finance Committee. The steps have been taken with immediate effect.

Gordon’s actions follow investigations into a building breach detected at a development on Lyndhurst Road in St. Andrew. The development was carried out by Gordon’s company, JACDEN.

The KSAMC recently confirmed that the building in question breached an application submitted to the local authority for approval.

The company had reportedly applied to construct a two-storey property, but a three-storey construction was discovered upon inspection.

The timeline of events outlined by the KSAMC did not indicate if and when approval was granted for the construction of the building.

Nationwide News has reported that no permit had been issued for the development.

In a statement to the media, Gordon says he has taken the decision to recuse himself in recognition of the KSAMC’s administration’s efforts to improve governance procedures at the local authority.

He says his company has taken steps to regularise the status of the development.

The PNP councillor says he remains committed to the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance.
