Member of Parliament for South St Catherine, Fitz Jackson, says the move to elevate Portmore to parish status should be supported by extensive formal consultation.
He made the comment at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Portmore on Wednesday.
Last Friday, the Supreme Court lifted the temporary injunction which had blocked the government from proceeding with the push to transition Portmore into a parish.
Both the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party have welcomed the ruling, with each side claiming vindication based on their interpretation of the court’s decision.
MP Jackson maintains that the move will strip residents of Portmore of their electoral rights.
Meanwhile, Jackson alleges that the Andrew Holness administration is withholding social development from Portmore until parish status is achieved.
