Young Jamaica Wants Dwayne Vaz Sacked as PNP Caretaker

The youth arm of the governing Jamaica Labour Party, Young Jamaica, is again calling for the PNP to remove Dwayne Vaz as caretaker in the constituency of Central Westmoreland.

The group’s latest call follows Mr. Vaz’s guilty plea for failing to comply with the rules of the Integrity Commission.

Young Jamaica first made the call last week after it was revealed that the Integrity Commission recommended that a criminal charge be brought against the former MP.

The Commission said this was due to Mr. Vaz’s inability to provide information requested by the Commission’s Director of Information Complaints, in contravention of the Integrity Commission Act.

This concerned his 2019 statutory declarations.

On Tuesday, in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court, Mr. Vaz pleaded guilty to failing to pay the fine associated with his late filing of documents to support his 2019 Statutory declarations.

Young Jamaica say Mr. Vaz’s actions represent a betrayal of public trust.

The group argues that Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, must remove Mr. Vaz from his role as a demonstration of his commitment to integrity.

It adds that failure to do this would undermine the credibility of the PNP.
