PNP, JLP Clash Over Gordon House Security Arrangements

6 months ago 32

The Opposition People’s National Party is questioning what it says was the absence of security personnel at Gordon House following Saturday night’s attempted arson.

But the youth arm of the Jamaica Labour Party, Young Jamaica is rebuking the PNP for what it says is the false claim that the parliamentary building was “left unguarded”.

In a statement on Sunday, the Parliamentary Opposition says it’s unacceptable that such an institution would be left unguarded, allowing the suspected arsonist unrestricted access to its halls.

The PNP is calling for a swift and comprehensive investigation to ascertain the identity and motive behind the act.

In condemning the act, the Opposition says the attempted arson represents an attack on a symbol of the country’s legislature and law-making.

It says the attack necessitates immediate attention from law enforcement authorities.

According to Young Jamaica, the facts are that members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force assist in providing security to Gordon House on a 24/7 basis.

Young Jamaica says it understands that it was the swift intervention of the police which resulted in the de-escalation of the attack, limiting the extent of the damage to the building.

Young Jamaica is cautioning the PNP against what it calls a thirst for attention and an apparent intent to mislead the public.
