PNP Considers DPP’s Office Vacated

The opposition People’s National Party, PNP, is calling on Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, Paula Llewellyn, to step aside.

The party held a media briefing Friday afternoon in response to Constitutional Court’s ruling striking down the second extension of the DPP’s tenure.

The PNP says the Office of the Services Commission must immediately appoint someone to act in the post.

After securing a major victory in the Constitutional Court on Friday, Opposition Leader Mark Golding, says he now considers the post of DPP vacated.

He says the Office of the Services Commission must now appoint someone to act and commence the search for a new head prosecutor.

According to Mr. Golding, Friday’s Court ruling is the end result of the Government’s fast and loose approach to constitutional and parliamentary matters.

The opposition leader says their decision to pursue the matter in court was about the office and not its holder.

Mr. Golding says the opposition is also prepared to take the matter all the way to the Privy Council if required.
