Prime Minister Andrew Holness is lauding government Senator Don Wehby for his service in the Senate.
Wehby resigned from the Upper House effective today, Thursday, November 7.
Grace-Kennedy announced the move in a statement issued this morning.
Wehby is the CEO of the company.
His resignation from the Upper House follows his temporary leave of absence from Grace-Kennedy for health reasons.
Wehby was first appointed to the Senate in September 2007.
He served for two years as Minister without portfolio in the Finance Ministry.
In a statement Thursday afternoon, Prime Minister Holness hailed Wehby as a steadfast advocate for the needs of the Jamaican people, bringing invaluable commercial and entrepreneurial insights into the legislative process.
Prime Minister Holness says throughout his tenure, the senator has championed policies that reflect his commitment to shared prosperity, economic stability, and sustainable national development.
The Prime Minister says his perspective and sobering presentations have greatly enriched discussions in the Senate.
He says he bridged the gap between the public and private sectors and contributed to legislation aimed at creating a more resilient, stable economy that works for the Jamaican people.
And the governing Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, has expressed regret at the resignation of Don Wehby from the Senate.
In a statement to the media, JLP General Secretary, Dr. Horace Chang, described Wehby’s contributions to the Upper House as outstanding.
Dr. Chang says Wehby’s contributions in Parliament have been sober, distinguished, and incisive.
According to the JLP General Secretary, Wehby remains a valued member of the governing party.
