Opposition Spokesman on Transport and Mining, Mikael Phillips, says he’s concerned by the recent closure of the main runway at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St. James.
Seven inbound flights were diverted to the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Sunday after what’s being described as minor damage was observed on the runway at Sangster Airport.
Normality was subsequently restored at the airport.
Mr. Phillips notes that this is the second airport closure this year due to safety reasons.
Mr. Phillips says the runway failure raises questions about inspections of the runway and adherence to protocols.
