Shadow Minister of Local Government, Natalie Neita Garvey, is calling for a review of inventory management policies and procedures at the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, ODPEM.
Neita Garvey’s call follows an Auditor General’s report revealing significant spoilage of relief supplies.
She says the management failures at ODPEM highlighted by the Auditor General must not be ignored.
The Auditor General’s report was tabled in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
It says for the period 2018-19 to 2023-24, ODPEM experienced some challenges in the management of its financial, human and physical resources.
These include governance issues, high staff turnover and health hazards.
Mrs. Neita Garvey is urging her government counterpart, Desmond McKenzie, to order a comprehensive review of policies and compliance with provisions of the ODPEM Act.
