Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke is leaving government. The revelation came Monday morning in a press release from the Office of the Prime Minister.
Dr. Clarke is set to take up the post of deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, IMF, the second highest post in the organisation.
The IMF plays a significant role in the world economy, promoting global financial stability and monetary cooperation, in service of its 190 member countries.

Dr Clarke’s appointment to the IMF becomes effective October 31, 2024.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says it is a historic and important development in which he takes immense pride. This, as no citizen of Jamaica, the Caribbean or Central America has ever before served at this level in the fund’s 80-year history.
Prime Minister Holness describes the appointment as a ‘consequential global position’.
Prime Minister Holness says the government has identified a successor for Dr. Clarke as Minister of Finance and the Public Service.
Dr. Clarke is the Member of Parliament for North western St Andrew. He became the member of parliament following a by-election in 2018.
Before entering representational politics, Dr. Clarke served in the Upper House of Parliament, from 2013 to 2015.
Dr. Clarke also served as Ambassador of Economic Affairs where he represented Jamaica’s interests with multilateral institutions.
Minister Clarke’s public sector career includes on the boards of the National Housing Trust, the Port Authority of Jamaica, the HEART Trust/NSTA and the Bank of Jamaica.
