Newly-elected Member of Parliament for North East St Ann, the Jamaica Labour Party’s, JLP, Matthew Samuda, says the real work begins now as he thanked those who supported him on his journey to victory in Monday’s by-election.
Mr. Samuda addressed jubilant supporters at the JLP constituency office in St. Ann’s Bay on Monday night.
Samuda won the by-election by more than 4,000 votes.
Preliminary results from the Electoral Office of Jamaica, EOJ show Samuda with 4,838 votes, or 95 per cent of the ballots.
The United Independents’ Congress’ Chase Neil received 30 votes, or one per cent of the ballots cast. The independent candidate, David Fritz Anderson, secured 222 votes, or four per cent.
Voter turnout was low at 11.6 per cent.
Mr. Samuda pledged to hit the ground running.
Meanwhile, Samuda says the low voter turnout in Monday’s by-election was expected based on the history of the constituency.
Samuda says he’s ready to tackle the problems affecting the people of North East St. Ann.
