NDM Condemns ‘Act of Terrorism’ in Cherry Tree Lane

The National Democratic Movement, NDM, has added its voice to the public condemnation of the Cherry Tree Lane massacre which claimed eight lives and wounded nine in Four Paths Clarendon.

Chairman, Michael Williams, labelled it an act of terrorism which has plunged the community and Jamaica into a pall of gloom and fear.

Mr Williams, who is also the party’s spokesperson on national security, urges the state to act decisively to deal with the threat.

Noting comments from Prime Minister Andrew Holness about going after gangs, Williams says the administration and the Opposition should also target politically affiliated gangs.

He is also calling on the police commissioner to widen the target areas in the constabulary’s search for the perpetrators of Sunday’s mass killing to constituencies in Kingston and St Andrew.

In the meantime, the NDM chairman has said the police force needs increased pay and manpower to effectively tackle crime.

He believes the constabulary should be increased to a size of twenty-five thousand strong.
