Mayor Fitzroy Wilson Wants Redistribution of Equalisation Fund

Mayor of Port Maria, Fitzroy Wilson, believes there should be a fairer distribution of the equalisation fund to match the contribution of each municipal corporation.

The equalisation fund was created in 1997 and is financed by 10 per cent of the money collected island-wide from property taxes.

All parish councils are allocated a percentage of the fund to carry out critical infrastructural work regardless of how much they contribute.

While noting the attempt at equality, Mr. Wilson believes there’s a better way to share the funds.
