Member of Parliament for St Ann North East, Marsha Smith, has resigned from the position with immediate effect.

The Office of the Prime Minister made the announcement in a statement moments ago.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness thanked Minister Smith for her service in North East St. Ann.

Smith won the St Ann North East constituency in the 2020 general election. But her relationship with her constituents quickly soured with protests against her starting in 2022.

It was revealed that Smith will not contest the next general election with Matthew Samuda selected as the party’s new standard bearer in the constituency.

Smith, an attorney, has also effectively resigned as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Youth.
