People’s National Party, PNP, vice-president Ian Hayles has been warned that he will face a defamation lawsuit from member of parliament for Western Westmoreland, the Jamaica Labour Party’s, JLP, Morland Wilson, if he does not apologise and remove offending content posted online.
Wilson’s attorney, Donahue Martin, issued the caution in a letter sent to Ian Hayles on June 13. In the letter, Hayles is accused of defaming Morland Wilson.
Hayles and his agents have been instructed to cease and desist from publishing defamatory content about Wilson.
The allegations centre around the distribution of black tanks in Westmoreland. Hayles alleged that Wilson corruptly distributed the tanks to a businessman.
But the businessman came forward and provided receipts which confirmed that he purchased the items from a private entity.
The businessman also complained of receiving death threats arising from Hayles’ allegations.
