Baseless suggestions, misleading statements, and downright lies.
That’s how Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, officials describe the opposition People’s National Party’s, PNP, pushback on the raft of measures announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness at the party’s 81st annual conference on Sunday.
The party held a post-conference media briefing at its Belmont Road headquarters in St. Andrew on Friday.
Mahiri Stewart attended and filed this report.
The JLP has gone on the offensive in response to the opposition’s reaction to the different initiatives made by Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Sunday.
At Friday’s media briefing, the JLP officials pulled no punches as they reacted to the PNP’s criticism.
First was Energy Minister Daryl Vaz.
He sought to debunk claims by both opposition leader, Mark Golding, and spokesperson on energy, Phillip Paulwell, that the Holness government has failed in its management of the country’s electrical infrastructure.
MP for North East St. Catherine, Kerensia Morrison, took aim at spokesperson on water, Ian Hayles.
In attempting to rubbish the water amnesty for delinquent NWC customers, Mr. Hayles made the claim that the board of the agency was left in the dark regarding the government’s debt write-off plan. Within hours, the NWC refuted his statement.
According to MP Morrison, Mr. Hayles owes the board of the NWC a public apology.
And member of the JLP’s Communication Taskforce, Marlon Morgan, also moved to rubbish the PNP’s labelling on the new initiatives as an attempt by the Holness administration to buy the votes in a bid to secure a third term.
