JLP Appoints New Officers; Morgan Resigns as PR Lead

The Central Executive of the Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, has moved to shake up the party’s leadership ranks following a meeting at its Belmont Road, St. Andrew headquarters on Sunday.

Nationwide sources say Homer Davis and Audley Gordon are out as deputy general secretaries.

They’re being replaced by Senator Charles Sinclair, who will assume responsibility for Western Jamaica. Delroy Williams is also set to take office as a deputy general secretary.

It’s understood Member of Parliament for West Portland, Daryl Vaz is the party’s new treasurer. He replaces Industry Minister Aubyn Hill, who will now be the party’s point man for quality control and constituency organisation.

In a post on social media, Information Minister Robert Morgan confirmed he has tendered his resignation as the party’s point man on communication. It’s not clear who replaces him.

The changes come nearly two months after the party lost the popular vote in the local government elections, and lost controls of two municipal corporations in the process.

Our sources say any changes to the ranks of the Cabinet will come on Monday, when the ministers are scheduled to meet.

Despite heightened public speculation, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has not indicated publicly that he will reshuffle the executive.
