Grange: Opposition Informed of Plans to Recognise Retired Clerk of Parliament

Acting Leader of Government Business, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, says her opposition counterpart was advised ahead of Tuesday’s sitting of the House that the government intends to recognise former House Clerk, Valrie Curtis.

On Tuesday, acting-Leader of Opposition Business, Fitz Jackson, voiced dissatisfaction with what he said was the administration’s failure to properly honour Ms. Curtis.

His comment followed the introduction to the House of the new Clerk, Colleen Lowe.

Miss Grange said she had discussed the issue with Fitz Jackson beforehand.

Mr. Jackson conceded that the pair did speak about the matter. But, he says Miss Grange’s response was inadequate.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness intervened, telling the House that Ms. Curtis will be accorded the proper parliamentary honour at an appropriate time.

Ms. Curtis retired last Saturday.
