Golding Rejects Samuda’s Call to Renounce UK Citizenship

6 months ago 46

Opposition Leader Mark Golding says he’ll not bow to pressure from Government Senator Matthew Samuda to renounce his British citizenship.

He made the comment on Thursday while speaking on the YouTube show ‘Context Matters’ with attorney-at-law and host Isat Buchanan.

On Thursday morning, Senator Samuda revealed in a radio interview that he was a dual British/Jamaican citizen. Senator Samuda is the Minister in Charge of Water.

He later issued a statement saying he has taken steps to renounce his British citizenship. In the same statement he urged Mark Golding to do the same.

But Golding says he will not be moved.

Meanwhile, the PNP president says he would have to consider what a renunciation of his British citizenship would mean for his late father, Sir John Golding.

Sir John was an Englishman.

Mr. Golding maintained during the interview that he’s a genuine Jamaican.
