Member of Parliament for East Central St. Andrew, Dr. Peter Phillips, believes a wider consultation is required to break the current constitutional reform deadlock.

Dr. Phillips, a former Leader of the Opposition, says this could potentially be the only way to salvage the process.

The Opposition PNP says a breakdown in trust between them and the government has contributed to the current impasse.

Dr. Phillips believes it may be best to not pursue the matter during such a politically charged period before a general election.

Meanwhile, Dr. Phillips says the leaders of the two main political parties must have frank private discussions about areas of compromise as they seek a way forward.
