Dr Peter Phillips Urges Doubters to View Positives of Clarke’s IMF Appointment

Former finance minister, Dr. Peter Phillips, is urging naysayers to look at the positives of Dr. Nigel Clarke’s appointment as deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund.

PNP general secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell, reacting to the developments, has called on the Holness administration to detail its plan to manage what he calls the ongoing economic crises, in the face of Dr. Clarke’s departure.

According to Dr. Campbell, the timing of Dr. Clarke’s move to the IMF signals his abandonment of what the People’s National Party, PNP, describes as a ‘sinking ship’, leaving Jamaicans to grapple with unresolved financial issues.

But speaking Monday evening on Nationwide at Five, Dr. Phillips says a move like this should be seen from an optimistic point of view.

Dr. Phillips says he has full confidence that Dr. Clarke will display his commitment to Jamaica even in his role at the IMF.
