Dalrymple-Philibert Urges Labourties to Use By-Election as a Show of Strength

Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, candidate for South Trelawny, Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert, says Labourites should use Friday’s by-election to signal the party’s strength.

She was speaking to JLP supporters during a community meeting in Lime Tree in the constituency on Wednesday night.

Mrs Dalrymple-Philibert resigned as Speaker of the Lower House and member of parliament last year.

The resignation came after the Integrity Commission ruled that she be charged for failing to declare ownership of a Mercedes Benz motorcar. Mrs. Dalrymple-Philibert has denied intentionally failing to make the declaration and is challenging the IC in court.

The four-time MP says this will be her most important election since entering representational politics.

The other candidate in the South Trelawny by-election is Lloyd Gillings, who is running as in Independent.

He told Nationwide News recently that his chances of securing victory are strong, despite four losses at the polls since his departure from the JLP.

His previous forays saw him contesting the local government polls as the People’s National Party’s standard-bearer for the Albert Town division on two occasions.

He has also unsuccessfully contested the parliamentary election for South Trelawny on two previous occasions.

Meanwhile, Mrs Dalrymple-Philibert is urging patience among constituents who are frustrated with the slow pace of infrastructure works.

Dalrymple-Philibert also took a jab at independent candidate, Lloyd Gillings, who said recently that there was no running water in the constituency.
