Dalrymple Philibert & Duane Smith Sworn in As MPs

The House of Representatives welcomed back this Member of Parliament, MP, for South Trelawny, Marissa Dalrymple Philibert on Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs. Philibert took her oath of office on Tuesday.

New MP for North West St Andrew, Duane Smith, was also sworn in.

Both MPs won their respective by-elections held on November 30.

Mr. Smith succeeds former MP and Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke who departed the island to take up a new post as deputy manager director of the International Monetary Fund.

Mrs. Dalrymple-Philibert, resigned as Speaker of the House of Representatives and MP in September of 2023. This followed charges laid against her by the Integrity Commission due to inaccuracies in her statutory declarations.

The MP at the time admitted to what she called a genuine error. The matter remains before the court.

Leader of Government Business in the House, Edmund Bartlett, welcomed both MP’s to the House.

However, he gave Mrs. Dalrymple-Philibert a particularly effusive greeting.
