Factors including age and poll performances are being cited by academics as the key reasons behind US President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race.

President Biden announced his decision to with draw from November’s election on Sunday, after weeks of increasing calls to step aside.

He has since endorsed US Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic party’s new presidential nominee for the election.

Speaking on Nationwide This Morning on Monday, Senior Fellow of the Shorenstein Centre at Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Professor Richard Parker says President Biden’s performance in the presidential debates last month was a key indicator that he was not fit for re-election.
