Analysts Cite Poor Messaging For Slipping Perception of JLP Gov’t

Two political analysts believe inadequate messaging by the JLP is crippling how Jamaicans view the work of the Holness administration and its efforts to address issues affecting the nation.

The assessment of the commentators follows the results of the latest Nationwide Bluedot polls, powered by Total Tools, on the major successes and failures of the government.

The poll found that 18% of respondents could not identify a major success of the government.

Another 15% said the development of road infrastructure and 14% said the government’s handling of the economy.

Crime at 38% has also been identified as the number one failure of the administration.

According to Germaine Barrett, the governing JLP is misfiring on its messaging to the Jamaican people.

Mr. Barrett notes that the Opposition has been doing a better job of shaping the narrative.

For her part, Dr. Nadeen Spence, who has a background in political science, says there is an absence of enthusiastic JLP messaging to push back against the narratives of the PNP.

And attorney-at-law Clyde Williams says the governing JLP is in an echo chamber.

According to him, the party is not listening to the people’s concern about issues like crime, corruption and the cost of living.
