The month of April typically signifies renewal, and the Canadian Women’s Club (CWC) in Jamaica is renewing its commitment to helping to improve the quality of life for the underserved through its fundraising Spring Into Fashion showcase. The April 28 event takes place at the AC Marriott Hotel on Lady Musgrave Road, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Under the patronage of the Canadian High Commissioner to Jamaica, Emina Tudakovic, Spring Into Fashion will see professional models and celebrities wearing leading Jamaican designers such as Courtney Washington, Janseen Graham, The House of Fennel, TNT Fashions,Heather Laine, Jamaican-US designer Hope Blake Wade, as well as the Edna Manley College’s textile department showcasing their designs.

“We look forward to the 2024 presentation of Spring into Fashion, the proceeds of which will benefit our many outreach projects, with this year’s beneficiary being the YWCA which has, for many years, assisted in skills training, with little resources,” said CWC President Marlene Fulford.

Headquartered in Kingston, the YWCA also operates centres in Spanish Town and Montego Bay, which provide courses in a variety of skill areas, from dressmaking to cake and pastry making, as well as remedial reading and basic English and mathematics. The institution plans to offer dining etiquette and grooming programmes.

Active for more than 60 years, the Canadian Women’s Club of Jamaica is a non-profit organisation comprising Canadian women living in Jamaica who seek to make a difference through volunteerism and who have sought to better acquaint themselves with the many facets of the island’s culture.
