Waterhouse climbed back to second in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) following a roller-coaster match with Dunbeholden at the Stadium East field yesterday.
The winners took the lead and lost it before walking away with a 3-2 victory at the end.
Andre Fletcher netted a brace for the Marcel Gayle-coached team, who moved to 25 points, the same as Mount Pleasant, who have the better goal difference and one more than Montego Bay United and Arnett Gardens. Both Mount Pleasant and Arnett Gardens will be in action today.
Fletcher fired Waterhouse in front after 37 minutes but goals from Chantomoi Taylor in first-half added time and Ricardo Thomas after the break (50th minute) put Dunbeholden ahead.
However, Fletcher levelled the score in the 60th minute, and Leonardo Jebbison completed the comeback with a strike nine minutes later.
“We are pleased, not with how we conceded the goals, but our overall performance was very good,” said Waterhouse assistant coach Damion Gordon. “Offensively, we are in a good frame of mind, and that is very good.”
Atapharoy Bygrave should have given Waterhouse the lead after three minutes but hooked his shot wide after rounding goalkeeper Romaine Hamilton.
The Drewsland-based team continued to pressure their opponents who offered very little in the attacking third. Their persistent knock on the door eventually paid off when Fletcher’s shot got stuck in a puddle of water at the goalmouth and Hamilton fell on top of the ball and redirected it into his own net.
However, in a dramatic finish to the half, Bygrave wasted a glorious chance to add to Waterhouse’s advantage when his penalty was saved after Richard Brown fouled Martin Davis in the area.
Dunbeholden then went upfield immediately, and Taylor, who gave Foster a rare test with a vicious shot from 22 yards earlier, picked up a loose ball from Brown’s deflected shot and slotted past Kemar Foster in goal to send the teams in at the break on even terms.
Six minutes into the second half, Dunbeholden were in front thanks to Ricardo Thomas’ delicate freekick from 20 yards.
Fletcher came close to an almost instant equaliser, but Hamilton closed down the angle quickly.
The winger would, however, get his second of the game when he slotted past Hamilton from a Bygrave pass on the hour.
Jebbison then completed the comeback after latching on to a pass from Denardo Thomas and slamming past Hamilton.
“I think we dropped our heads and made a few mistakes, and that let Waterhouse back into the game. A team like Waterhouse don’t need an invitation to do that,” said Dunbeholden coach Byjeon Thomas.
Despite the defeat, Dunbeholden remained in seventh with 14 points.
