In his very first interview following his release from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre formerly known as General Penitentiary aka GP Vybz Kartel says, “The feeling of just being free is an amazing feeling.”

He continued by saying “It’s so surreal i have to pinch myself just to see that I’m awake,” in the exclusive interview done by FOX 5 New York and released on Sunday.

The Portmore deejay reveals that his partner Sidem Ozturk told him that he’s a free man during a phone call, “babe i on my way to get you… baby you’re free,” he said she stated while informing him of the good news.

According to the deejay, despite an EP being released just hours after his release from prison, he is set to release many more songs because he has albums of songs, “mi have albums worth of songs, so a lot of writing about the situation, not about the situation,” he stated.

As detailed in the interview, at the moment, the deejay is looking to reconnect with his loved ones and regain his health with an aim to return to the stage before the end of the year.

Vybz Kartel and his former co-accused were convicted in 2014 for the killing of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams after the longest trial in Jamaica’s history, however, in 2024 the convictions were quashed by the UK Privy Council on the grounds of ‘jury misconduct’.

Prosecutors were aiming for another trial, however, the Jamaica Court of Appeal decided to let the men walk free, given the resources needed and the circumstances surrounding the case.
