Vybz Kartel Promises ‘Epic’ Return At First Concert In 14 Years At National Stadium 

Dancehall star Vybz Kartel is set to make a dramatic return to the stage after 14 years with his “Freedom Street” concert scheduled for New Year’s Eve, December 31, at Jamaica’s National Stadium.

It will be his first live performance since his release from prison two months ago following the Privy Council’s overturning of his murder conviction.

“To my fans, this concert is for you. Freedom Street is not just a return – it’s a statement. I’ve been waiting for this moment as much as you have, and trust me, it’s going to be epic. The love and support over the years have been overwhelming, and now it’s time to celebrate together. See you on December 31st,” Kartel said.

Tickets for ‘Freedom Street’ will go on sale on August 31 at 3 a.m. and will initially be available online for various sections, including Bleachers, Grand Stand, in-Field, and Centre Stage.

Physical ticket locations will be announced at a later date.

The concert, produced by Downsound Entertainment, is billed as more than a musical event. Joe Bogdanovich, CEO of Downsound Entertainment, and Robert Livingston, executive director, emphasized that “Freedom Street is a celebration of resilience, artistry, and the unbreakable spirit of Vybz Kartel”.

“We at Downsound Entertainment are honoured to bring this historic event to life. The demand is going to be massive, so I urge every fan to secure their tickets early. This is more than a performance; it’s a moment in history you won’t want to miss,” they continued.

Cordell ‘Skatta’ Burrell and Karla Jankee, members of the production team, noted that “the event is going to be electrifying, and it’s going to be a night that will go down in dancehall history”.

Jankee also noted that “the National Stadium is going to be transformed into something truly spectacular for Freedom Street. We’re not just putting on a concert; we’re creating an immersive experience that will usher in the new year with a bang. Expect nothing but the best – from the stage design to the lighting and special effects, it’s going to be an unforgettable night for everyone in attendance”.

In preparation for the event, Kartel has been focusing on his health, sharing social media updates of gym sessions and a new diet regimen carefully selected by his fiancee, Sidem Ozturk.

He’s also been addressing his Graves’ disease, recently traveling to St. Vincent and the Grenadines for treatment.
