President of the Jamaica Paralympic Association, Christopher Samuda, says the city of Valledupar is on track to host a very successful South American Para Games in 2026.

Valledupar, located in the department of Cesar, in the northeast of Colombia, was officially selected as the host city for these Games, last February.

Samuda says the infrastructure venues to support the various sport is already in place.

Samuda, who is also the president of the Jamaica Olympic Association, says refurbishing for sport venues and the retrofitting and in some cases construction of facilities will allow greater accessibility and convenience for wheelchair users.

The Games will bring together over 2,000 athletes from 12 nations.

It will feature 12 para-sports, including para-athletics, wheelchair basketball, football for the visually impaired, boccia, powerlifting, and para-badminton.

Samuda emphasised that critical to the spirit and success of any games is the full engagement of the citizens.

He also calls for a viable business model.

Christopher Samuda.
