Veteran Lovers Rock singer Thriller U and Reggae/Dancehall artist Jahmiel will headline Negril’s Glamour: The Black & White Edition, a New Year’s Eve event hosted by Diplomat Promotion, which is set for the Wavz Beach Club in the resort town, on Tuesday, December 31.
According to promoter Shadae Campbell, the choice of Thriller U and Jahmiel as headliners for the event, which is being held in association with Slippery Wet Ja, is based on their ability to deliver what she describes as a musical experience that matches the upscale, family-oriented vibe of the celebration.
She said attendees can look forward to a memorable performance from Thriller U, known for his classic ballads such as My Love, I’ll Prove It, and Ain’t No Way To Say I’m Sorry, which are sure to captivate the ladies.
His junior, Jahmiel, on the other hand, is expected to bring powerful, uplifting messages focused on self-love, personal growth, and overcoming challenges via his hits such as True Colours, A Better Tomorrow, Strongest Soldier and Great Man.
“Thriller U and Jahmiel were selected to perform because they offer a blend of music that aligns with the event’s upscale, family-friendly atmosphere. The patrons should expect a stellar performance from both artistes. With Triller U, the ladies can expect to be thrilled with vintage ballads, while Jahmiel brings conscious lyrics on self-love, life challenges, and uplifting themes,” she told DancehallMag.
Campbell said the idea for the annual event came from the team’s desire to create an upscale New Year’s Eve celebration in Negril, separate from the typical hotel experiences. Last year’s staging was headlined by Dancehall singjay, Teejay.
“We saw the need for an upscale event in Negril on New Year’s Eve, where you can take your family and friends and have a great time with a clean vibe and a live performance,” Campbell said.
The event will also feature music of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, provided by DJ Maxx the Ultimate, DJ Absolute and ZJ Ice, a top DJ from Zip FM, who will also bring added energy to the event.
The Rusea’s High School past student, also explained that DJ Maxx the Ultimate and DJ Absolute were chosen for their local connections to Negril.
“Both DJs are from the Negril area, and we want to give them an opportunity to showcase their talent on our platform. DJ Maxx is one of Western Jamaica’s up-and-coming DJs, while DJ Absolut is a seasoned veteran with years of experience,” she said.
As for the black and white theme, Campbell said this was chosen to create a bold, vibrant, and sophisticated atmosphere.
“We were looking for colors that create a vibrant, bold, and sophisticated look, while also promoting togetherness and unity. The theme helps enhance the decor and adds a coordinated visual element to the event,” she explained.
“Glamour: The Black & White Edition will be an all-inclusive, upscale event. It’s a premium food, all-inclusive event where everyone is a VIP. With live performances by two of Jamaica’s top vocalists, the ambience, the decor, and the location at Wavz Beach Club, it’s a unique New Year’s Eve celebration in Negril,” she said.
For security, Campbell said the team has arranged for both the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and a private security company to ensure a safe environment for all patrons.
“We’ve taken steps to ensure that the event is safe and secure,” Campbell said.
“Glamour: The Black & White Edition aims to provide a memorable experience for everyone in attendance. We want to create a unique experience and lasting memories for everyone with their family, friends, and crew,” she added.
