WITH THE four seeded teams, in defending champions, Holmwood Technical High School, Glenmuir, last year’s beaten finalist, Denbigh, and Manchester already topping their groups, other teams will be hunting for quarter-final spots when the last set of matches in the second round of the ISSA Rural Schoolgirl Netball competition comes to an end today.
Glenmuir and Manchester, who completed their schedules after topping their respective groups will be idle today, while Holmwood and Denbigh will be in action with a view to maintaining their momentum ahead of Wednesday’s start to the quarterfinal round.
Undoubtedly, the most impressive team so far after scoring over 100 goals in two of their matches, the Carline Graham-coached Holmwood will come up against Mount Alvernia at the Montego Bay Boys’ and Girls’ Club at 1 pm in their Group II encounter.
This could be their sternest test to date but they should get by their opponents who have won three matches so far and look set to finish second in group II, with a quarterfinal spot as their reward.
Like Holmwood, the Winston Nevers-coached, Denbigh, have been in exceptional form, coming off two big wins in Group IV.
They should end on a high when they journey to Moneague College to take on York Castle at noon.
With Manchester already topping Group I with a maximum of six points, Green Pond will meet Maggotty in a crucial game at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), also at 1 p.m. The winner will earn a quarterfinal berth.
Titchfield will go up against Brown’s Town in their Group III encounter at GC Foster College at 11:30 a.m. knowing a win puts them into the quarterfinals.

Among the juniors, Holmwood and Denbigh are assured of topping their groups after maintaining unbeaten runs.

Glenmuir and Manchester have lost a game each with the latter going down to the much-improved Mile Gully and the former losing to Titchfield in their opening matches of the round.
