TAJ Addressing Tax Reverse Issues Faced by Pensioners

The Tax Administration of Jamaica, TAJ, says it’s working to address potential issues being faced by government pensioners when attempting to apply for the $20,000 reverse tax credit.

The reverse tax credit was launched this Wednesday.

However, since its launch, the online platform designed to facilitate applications has been plagued with glitches for many individuals.

Chevon Campbell tells us more.

On Wednesday, Chief Technical and Tax Dispute Resolution Advisor at TAJ, Bevon Sinclair, sought to assure pensioners that they would be able to apply for the $20,000 grant.

However, subsequent to that assurance being given, many pensioners were told by the online system that they were not eligible for the giveback.

On Friday, Mr. Sinclair says they’ve since been made aware of issues regarding government pensioners.

Mr. Sinclair hopes to have a more definitive answer by Monday.

The TAJ Advisor says they’re also working through other issues to enable Scotia-Bank accounts as a potential destination for payouts.

He says at the moment certain security arrangements between the bank and government must be finalised.

Meanwhile, TAJ says it is continuing to work on a fix to the challenge faced by some applicants who are still not able to select SMS notifications on the website.

As at 3 pm almost 168,000 applications have been submitted.
