T&T: Probe Ordered after 12 Police Officers Beat court case

The conduct of the Professional Standards Bureau of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is now under investigation after 12 police officers, charged with misbehaviour in public office, walked free.

The dismissals followed repeated non-compliance by the prosecution regarding orders given by the court, which had to be followed before the cases could proceed to trial.

The Police Complaints Authority says the Professional Standards Bureau had conducted these high-profile and serious criminal matters.

The Authority says it made several referrals for discipline and repeated advice to the Commissioner of Police over the past thirteen years.

These investigations refer to matters where police complainants fail to attend court, fail to comply with the court’s directives, and fail to comply with their own standing orders.

As a result, the matters have been submitted to the Authority’s investigative and legal units for immediate action.
