Dancehall artist Skillibeng has achieved another milestone in the United Kingdom, securing his second Silver certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for his feature on Tyla’s hit single Jump.
The track, which also features Atlanta rapper Gunna, has surpassed 200,000 units in combined sales and streams, according to The Official Charts Company.
Released in May 2024, the collaboration was produced by Sammy Soso for Tyla’s self-titled debut album. Skillibeng’s smooth intro, “Original gyal, you aren’t a replica,” earned praise from Tyla herself for setting the stage for the song’s narrative of self-confidence.
“That intro was already perfect, and it segues to that line of me saying, ‘They’ve never had a pretty girl from Joburg/They see me now and that’s what they prefer,’” she told Apple Music. “That line is just-it’s too iconic for me, and I’m just so excited to hear all the girls sing it, all the Joburg girls sing it, all the girls from home.”
The music video, directed by Nabil, has garnered over 36 million views on YouTube, featuring scenes shot in Johannesburg, Soweto, and Kingston, Jamaica.
In the UK, Jump reached No. 38 on the Official Singles Chart and No. 1 on the UK Afrobeats Chart. Elsewhere, the song reached No. 3 on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart and No. 87 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.
In July, it was certified Gold in Canada after surpassing 40,000 units in that country.
The track has also earned Skillibeng a finalist spot in the 2024 Billboard Music Awards for “Best Afrobeats Song.”
This certification follows Skillibeng’s previous Silver certification for his solo hit Crocodile Teeth and comes on the heels of his second nomination for “Best Caribbean Music Act” at the upcoming Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards.
