Seven 100m Personal Bests Set at ‘Champs’ in Event First

The second day of the 2024 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships experienced an unprecedented occurrence on Wednesday.

All seven 100m finals at the championships were won in personal record times.

Damor Miller of Excelsior closed the show on day two by taking gold in the class one boys event in 10.31 seconds. Silver went to Khamani Gordon of Calabar in 10.37 seconds and bronze to Youri Lawrence Clarke of Kingston College in 10.45 seconds.

Hydel’s Alliah Baker landed the class one girls’ title in 11.34 seconds, Jounce Armstrong of Edwin Allen landed silver in 11.52 seconds and Mickayla Gardener of Wolmer’s third in 11.59 seconds.

The class two crowns were won by Theianna Lee Terrelonge of Edwin Allen in 11.22 seconds and Nyron Wade of Kingston College in 10.43 seconds.

Natrece East of Wolmers clocked 11.42 seconds to claim the class three girls’ title while Mario Ross also of Wolmer’s won the boys’ crown in 10.88 seconds.

Teixiera Johnson of Hydel landed the class four girls’ title in 11.87 seconds.

One record has so far been broken at the meet as Kimeka Smith of St. Jago High threw 16.43 meters to win the class two girls shot put. She beat the previous record of 15.99 meters set in 2018 by Danielle Sloley of Immaculate .

Meanwhile, former champions Edwin Allen are leading the girls standings after nine finals. The Frankfield-based school is well out front on 81 points.

They are followed by defending champions Hydel 37. St. Jago is next on 36 points. Wolmer’s and Holmwood round out the top five with 29 and 25 points respectively.

On the boys side it’s a tie between champions Kingston College and Jamaica College, both are on 67 points after eight finals.

Excelsior High, on 29 points, occupies third. Fourth is Calabar on 24 points and Steths fifth with 23 points.

Day three of the championships gets underway at 9 this morning and there’re 13 finals on the day.
