Reid expects rural schoolgirl netball quarter-final berth

THE SECOND round of the ISSA Rural Schoolgirl Netball competition, where teams vie for quarter-final spots, will get underway today at five venues across the island.

Coach of Glenmuir High School, Ryan Reid, whose senior team was dethroned by Holmwood in a close final last year, is confident that his team can go all the way this time.

After seeing both his junior and senior teams losing to Denbigh in their final preliminary matches two weeks ago, Reid is confident that they can top their group and move on to the quarter-finals slated for November 27.

Today, both teams will travel to The Queen’s School in the Corporate Area to play Titchfield. The juniors will take to the court at 11:30 a.m., while the seniors play at 12:30 p.m.

“We expect to top our group in the second round, despite not playing a lot of games in the preliminary round. The girls are ready for the task ahead. We have been in the finals two years in a row and we are confident that we will be in the finals once again. The girls are really focused and raring to go,” said Reid.

Reid will be hoping that lanky goal shooter, Tori Mendez, who played well against Denbigh, will continue her good form, and expects the likes of goal attack Trishauna Allen, centre Tajera March, and goal defence Felissa Dennis to give her the necessary support.

Defending senior and all-island champions, Holmwood Technical, will open their second-round campaign at St Elizabeth Technical High School where they will take on Irwin at 11:30 a.m, just after their juniors do battle with Montego Bay at 10:30 a.m.
