Reggae singer joins medical mission to host free health fair

Reggae singer and entrepreneur Stevie Face is passionate about giving back to the community of Albion, in Yallahs, St Thomas, and has joined forces with the Help Jamaica Medical Mission to put on a free health fair today.

The easygoing singer, who is known for songs such as Tell It Like It Is, I’m in Love, and My Prayer, opened his Advance Service Station in Albion a decade ago and, since then, he has put on several charitable events for the people in that area and surrounding areas.

“Yallahs is my home town and I am firmly dedicated to doing all I can to uplift the people of Albion and surrounding areas through job creation with my businesses. I’m also committed to promoting unity, especially among the youth in the area. That’s why, over the past 10 years, I’ve promoted several free concerts and sporting events for the people in the area,” said the artiste.

The event, which is called the St Thomas Health Fair, will take place at the Yallahs Primary School.

“I want all the people in Yallahs and surrounding areas to come out. The medical team will be doing free blood pressure checks, HIV/STI screenings, diabetes checks, and eye checks. All this and so much more will be done for the people who attend the health fair. Persons who need medications will also receive them free of cost,” he said.

As it relates to his musical career, Stevie is currently enjoying much attention with his new single titled Sweet Yuh, produced by Tad’s Records. Released in May, it has been receiving strong rotation both locally and overseas. Sweet Yuh is currently sitting in the number nine position on the Jamaica Music Countdown Top 25 Reggae Singles Charts.

Born Anwar Hanchard in Yallahs, Stevie Face started singing with his grandmother’s church choir from he was nine years old. His first official recording, Teach The Children, became every Jamaican child’s anthem, and this spawned his début album, Coming At You.

After linking up with Arrows Records in 2001, Stevie released his first hit song, I’m In Love. With the overwhelming response to his début album and his newly found chart dominance, Stevie was invited as the opening act for Sizzla’s 2002 USA tour. This led to numerous dates across the USA and Canada. While on tour, Stevie was involved in a car accident returning from a sound check in Miami, Florida, which led to an unplanned three-year hiatus from the music business because of a serious back injury. Stevie stepped back on the scene in 2006. However, things really exploded in 2009 with the Computer Paul-produced mega hit Tell It Like It Is and the critically acclaimed album of the same name.

In February 2010, he made his UK début at the prestigious Brixton O2 for the Valentine’s Day Showcase, bringing the house to a frenzy when he delivered Tell It Like It Is. In 2013, Penthouse records released another huge radio hit for Stevie called Thank You for Loving Me, produced by Donovan Germain.

He considers himself privileged to work with top musicians and producers, including Sly and Robbie, Dean Fraser and Mikey Bennett, which gave him his first glimpse of the really serious side of the music business and what it takes to build a serious long-term career.
