The Raintree Commercial Complex at Ferry Pen in St. Catherine has the potential to provide more than 7,000 jobs. That’s according to Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness.

In his keynote address at the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Prime Minister Holness noted that some 2,000 of the jobs will be provided during the construction phase.

Over 100 acres of land at Caymanas Estate will be developed for the complex. Plans are for the plot, which forms block one of the overall project, to be subdivided and dedicated to commercial and light industrial development.

Dr Holness says the complex is expected to attract over $3 billion in capital investment infrastructure.

The $14 billion complex is an initiative led by the Urban Development Corporation.

And Prime Minister Holness, has sought to assure that development can be pursued in harmony with the environment.

The prime minister says balance can also be achieved between technology and tradition.

He was speaking at Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Raintree Commercial Complex in Ferry, St Catherine.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Holness says the reduction of poverty will help convert citizens into environmental stewards.
