Prime Minister Andrew Holness has sought to assure the country that his administration and the economy will continue to flourish despite the sudden departure of Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke.
Dr. Clarke is set to take up the post of Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, IMF, at the end of October.
Addressing the handover ceremony of one hundred new buses to the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC, Mr. Holness says the government’s efforts to improve the lives of Jamaicans are not based on a single personality.
Chevon Campbell tells us more.
As the Holness administration moves to replace its critically acclaimed finance minister, the prime minister is reminding Jamaicans of his sterling contribution to the country’s development.
However, he also sought to hammer home the message that Dr. Clarke was not alone in crafting the economic and fiscal policies driving the country’s success.
The prime minister says Dr. Clarke’s departure rather than a negative should be seen as high praise and an affirmation of what the country and his administration have achieved.
Dr. Clarke has won accolades from the international community.
The IMF’s Managing Director described Dr. Clarke as an exceptional public servant and policymaker with proven leadership in institution building and economic crisis management who has stewarded his country’s economy to a stronger and more sustainable position.
Prime Minister Holness sought to assure Jamaicans that his party is capable of finding and nurturing talents such as the soon-to-be erstwhile Finance Minister.
