Nomination Deadline for SRC’s S&T Extraordinaires Award Extended to June 25

Persons have up to June 25 to submit nominations for the Scientific Research Council (SRC) 2024 Science and Technology Extraordinaires Jamaica Award.

Information Service Division Manager at the SRC, Elijah Green, said the extension is to provide ample opportunity for outstanding scientists across Jamaica to come forward to be recognised.

“We want to highlight the great works that have been done in the field from both females and males. Our goal is to showcase the exceptional talent within Jamaica’s scientific community and provide a platform for both established and emerging scientists to be celebrated,” he said.

At inception, the initiative focused on highlighting female scientists, but the SRC has expanded the scope of the award to recognise outstanding males.

Mr. Green said this move is to foster inclusivity and celebrate the achievements of all scientists regardless of gender.

The award is open to Jamaican scientists of all levels.

Persons are encouraged to pay keen attention to the guidelines outlined on the nomination form, which can be accessed using the link https://forms.gle/jS71qwty96LNehbe9.

With the extended deadline, the SRC is anticipating greater participation from Jamaica’s brightest minds in the science and technology fields.

“We are looking forward to more persons coming onboard. Our aim is to host an awards ceremony in September, coinciding with our conference, where we will honour the top nominees and highlight their contributions to the field,” Mr. Green said.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the SRC plans to produce a docuseries and magazine to showcase the work of the awardees.

This aims to amplify the impact of their research and inspire future generations of scientists.

The SRC is Jamaica’s principal public-sector agency responsible for fostering and coordinating scientific research and the promotion and application of its results.
