No scatter shots on Popcaan, Chronic Law’s ‘Kick it Wid Myself’

In the world of linear equations, a Popcaan and Chronic Law collaboration would be written something like this: 1Unruly + 1Law Boss = x. If you remain mystified over the fact that a man who calls himself ‘Unruly’ is the real bredren of one whose moniker is the ‘Law Boss’, then you will perhaps find it difficult to find the value of ‘x’.

Otherwise, the simple answer is that the value of ‘x’ is ‘chubble’. As one fan of both artistes commented under the YouTube video of their 2025 hit collab Kick it Wid Myself, “Look wah Skatta go cause now. Chubble!” Of course, this comments resounds with some amount of the kind of drama which seems essential to dancehall.

Anyway, the streets are saying excitedly that the “Popcaan and Chronic Law chune bad” and the numbers are certainly testament to this.

The official video for Kick it Wid Myself, premièred on YouTube on January 3, and up to press time it was #1 on Trending for music and had amassed 801,000 views in a mere six days.

The comments also tell a story : “One of the first hit songs for the year.” “Once UNRULY and 1LAW team up yuh know a greatness.” “Popcaan and Chronic Law duo is dancehall cheat code.” “Fully Law. The St Thomas Native killer duo. Big up Law boss x Unruly boss.” “Right time this drop my life needed this song.” “Chronic Law bad. Popcaan bad. And the song real badness.”

For real, Popcaan and Chronic Law are lyrically strong on Kick it Wid Myself – no surprise there – and the fans are listening keenly and loving it. “At 1:42 … s’maddy kick a bucket wha nuh carry nuh cement! Jah Jah yute too rough!” was a well-endorsed comment.

Kick it With Myself, a melodious loner’s anthem, sees the artistes taking a well-defined high road rather than a scatter shot approach to life’s troublesome situations. Infused with a lament that “ fake friend sell me out too much time” the song also cautions against “bad energy”, while indicating that there is hope because “real people” are still around. And, most importantly, the artistes know that they will conquer because “ mi grow tuffa dan the buckle pon mi belt”.

This is not the first time that the two St Thomas “man dem” are linking up for a collab and setting trends. The official video for Popcaan’s St Thomas Native ft Chronic Law premièred July 17, 2023 and has amassed more than 31 million views and counting.

Kick it With Myself comes at an interesting juncture, right after a bust up at Kartel’s history-making Freedom Street concert at the end of the year and allegations of 100-man entourage.

But, as Popcaan said, “The start of the year is the perfect time to clear your energy and focus on what matters. It’s for everyone who’s had to deal with fake people in their lives. The message is simple – know your worth and never settle for bad energy.”
