New Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) marketing manager, Avery Campbell, said with the experience gained at the Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PJFL) and the confidence the federation has shown in her, she believes she can help improve the JFF’s marketability.
However, Campbell who spent three years as head of marketing with the PFJL hopes she is afforded the freedom to express herself and to implement her ideas in order to help the federation make the desired improvements.
“The PFJL made me the person that everybody knows today. They gave me the opportunity. They opened up networks and my eyes to things that I wouldn’t have learned in school.
“The partnership allowed me to express myself. The PFJL provided the platform where I could come up with ideas and bring them to life. And prove that things can be done that you think of.
“I think Owen (Hill – PFJL CEO) played a big role in allowing me to express myself. It is something I am very grateful for and if I never had that opportunity I would still be working in between lines and with limitations. But he and Chris (Williams – PFJL chairman) allowed me to push the boundaries but not break the rules.”
Campbell revealed that the JFF began pitching the idea of her joining their team early in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season, and that with the guidance of Hill, Williams and Rudolph Speid, JFF technical committee chairman, she has gradually been preparing to make the move since then.
“Chris Williams and Owen Hill and also Mr Speid had been preparing me for an opportunity.
“There are a lot of things I am not privy to but I know that this was an opportunity I could not pass down when it came.
“It was a hard one to make. I took a while to actually come around to it because the PFJL have a lot of partners and I have a lot of relationships.”
Given the circumstances, the JFF and PFJL will allow her to divide her time between both organisations for the time being, until the latter are able to sort out a permanent arrangement.
“I won’t be leaving abruptly. There are so many relationships and many things in the pipeline for the Premier League. I want to do this in such a way that it maintains the level that it (JPL) is right now or until they either find an alternative or whatever the PFJL decide on their end,” she pointed out.
Campbell, says she will bring the highest level of professionalism and excellence to the table, and that with the right support she believes they can maximise on this potential.
“For the JFF it is really the same mission (as with the PFJL) but it will be on the behalf of my country. So whatever is in front of me I will be representing with the highest form of excellence,” Campbell told The Gleaner.
Meanwhile, the JFF in a release, said Campbell carries a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role and will be responsible for overseeing the marketing operations with the JFF, liaising with sponsors, marketing agencies, 876Stream, C11 Media and fan support groups to expand the reach of the JFF and position its brand.
JFF General Secretary Dennis Chung said they look forward to having her on the team.
“We are confident that her expertise will be an asset to the federation in terms of getting more sponsors, networking and also raising capital and revenue. She has a proven track record in this area and we feel she will be a benefit to all our national teams.”
