Jaylen Brown missed a jumper at the buzzer as defending champions the Boston Celtics lost a close game 116-117 to the Atlanta Hawks in the opening game of the NBA in-season tournament at the TD Gardens Tuesday night.
Brown still ended the night with 37 points, while Derrick White soared for 31 and Jason Tatum scored 20 points.
In other games Steph Curry scored 37 points to go along with 9 assists and 6 rebounds as the Golden State Warriors turned back the Dallas Mavericks 120-117 on Klay Thompson’s return to the Bay Area with his new team.
Thompson, who played 13 years for the Warriors before leaving for Dallas this season, scored 22 points.
In the other in-season tournament openers, the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Toronto Raptors 99-85.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons beat the Miami Heats 123-121 in over time, the Phoenix Suns tagged the Utah Jazz 120-112, the Portland Trailblazers overturned the Minnesota Timberwolves 122-108.
In other results, the New York Knicks stopped the Philadelphia 76ers 111-99 and the Orlando Magic beat the Charlotte Hornets 114-89.
