May Day, STETHS in for fights in Headley Cup semis

MAY DAY High School put in a good shift in their ISSA Headley Cup semi-final first day at home against Clarendon College, but in the other fixture, many-time champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), also playing hosts, have a fight on their hands against Manchester High School.

May Day, thanks to half-centuries from Chadwick Hewitt, 84, and Sanjay Martin, 65, put up a competitive 287 all out against the bowling of Kemardo Cameron, six for 74, and Dijauni West, three for 33.

Still with some work to do, May Day also put in a good shift with the ball in the evening to leave Clarendon at 62 for two with Jovannie Palmer, 14, and Tequan Roberts, 23, the batsmen out.

So far, Nashane Mead has been the man to do the damage for May Day, picking up two for 27 ahead of today’s restart.

Also choosing to bat, STETHS started well enough, getting to 63 without loss after their game got off to a late start on account of a wet pitch.

However, openers Tyreek Bryan, 31, and Kevaughn Brown, 34, fell to the bowling of Barrington Simpson without adding to the score.

STETHS would then go from 63-2 to 113 for five, with Kevoni Graham, 47, and Rushane McKenzie, 34, helping them to a more respectable 188 all out.

The underwhelming batting performance came against Simpson, who ended with 4-39, and Matthew Morgan, 2-51.

Manchester were 12 without loss at the close.
