Lee-Chin: Clarke’s Appoint to the IMF a Good Thing for Jamaica

Chairman of the Economic Growth Council, Michael Lee-Chin, says the appointment of finance minister, Dr Nigel Clarke as deputy managing director of the IMF, is a good thing for Jamaica.

Lee Chin was speaking with the media in Westmoreland on Thursday.

Dr. Clarke is slated to step down from one of the most important roles in government to take up his new post on October 31, 2024.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government has identified a successor and there will be a smooth transition.

But, there have been questions surrounding the length of time it’s taking for the successor to be named.

Addressing a PNP conference in Eastern Westmoreland on the weekend, Opposition Leader Mark Golding suggested the Holness-Administration was unable to govern without Clarke.

Lee-Chin says Dr. Clarke’s elevation to the IMF could present greater opportunities for Jamaica.
