Layers of healing: Discovering purpose in pain and trauma

“You are not alone. Keep going!” In Layers of Healing: Discovering Purpose in Pain and Trauma, author Chantaeu Munroe tells her readers that there is freedom that can be found on the other side of their pain.

“There is hope on the other side of pain, there is freedom that can be found on the other side of fear, and there is divine joy that can be discovered because of facing your pain and trauma head-on,” Munroe said.

A trauma coach and the chief executive officer and founder of CKM Healing and Consultancy, Munroe left her corporate job to fully pursue purpose and passion, while monetising the gifts that were given to her, by starting her own registered business known as CKM Healing and Consultancy.

“This book is for the woman who is crippled by pain from the trauma she has experienced, to teach her how to face her pain, dive deep into the layers of her trauma to bring healing, transformation, and God’s perfect purpose out of her. I include my own story of healing and transformation, providing a guide with the tools for healing and deliverance,” Munroe said.

In the layers of the book, you will find parts of her story, prayer, and journal exercises to help you begin your journey of healing practically.

“The journey of peeling back the layers of healing is continuous because we heal in layers, not all at once. It becomes a bit easier when your foundation has been restored. Take a chief operating officer approach to your own life, while believing that you deserve good things, including that perfect peace that surpasses all understanding that God talks about,” Munroe said.

Trauma, as she vividly illustrates, is not merely an event that fades with time; it etches itself into the very fabric of your being, demanding acknowledgement, and resolution. With unwavering transparency, Munroe invites readers to traverse the tumultuous terrain of their own pain, offering a compassionate guide through the labyrinth of healing.

This riveting narrative is more than a memoir; it is a road map for those ensnared by tendrils of trauma. Through poignant reflections and engaging activities, Munroe empowers women to confront their pain head-on, unravelling the layers of trauma that shroud their souls.

“To get the desired healing I was craving, I had to dig deep. I had to unclutter beliefs and curses that were spoken over my life by myself, and any I had accepted spoken by others, because of pain and trauma. I also had to face those that were spoken over and through my family that would have been passed down to me before I was born,” Munroe said.

The book launch, held at The Palms, was endorsed by the president of the Jamaican Psychology Association, Dr Djavila Ho, a licensed associate clinical psychologist and KHALE Journey’s Director, Dr Kai Morgan, a clinical psychologist. A panel discussion on the layers of healing had special guests Dr Sara Lawrence, gynaecologist and founder of Charis Womens Wellness Centre; Jermaine Nairne, senior manager, talent, performance and culture, the Jamaica National Group; Odean White, chief privacy officer, Bank of Jamaica; and Jace Myrie, managing director of Jace Myrie Media.

“The book provides the reader with a practical guide that is supported with affirmations. You are safe, you are OK, you are fine! The resources offer invaluable insight for mental health, and anyone breaking that stigma. Trauma is something that has happened to you, but you can heal, and this book helps to guide you through the healing process,” Dr Ho said.

Munroe said there is a second book that she has been inspired to write. “All of this happened this year. God said there are things that I have for you to do. I am trusting that God will continue to flourish my basket. This is just the beginning of what is to come,” she said.
