Jooky Jam returns - Veteran comedian makes hilarious stage comeback

Veteran actor and comedian Stede Flash, more commonly known as 'Jooky Jam', has not performed in Jamaica since 2011. So, when the opportunity to star in a new play alongside a fellow veteran came knocking, Flash had no choice but to answer.

"It's been a minute mi nuh perform in a Jamaica, so I had to come with all the happiness and joy that 'Jooky Jam' is known for," Flash told THE STAR. "Being able to perform in front of my local audience and the whole family is a really great feeling and I was really looking forward to it."

The actor was called back to his old stomping grounds by the equally hilarious Andrea 'Delcia' Wright for her new play titled The Real Wife.

"We have been preforming this play in the US, in several states like Washington, DC and Florida, and there are still a few places on the radar we are trying to solidify," Flash explained.

Despite being an international performer, however, the popular actor is adamant that there's no place to perform like home.

"Performing for Jamaicans in Jamaica is a totally different experience. From the get-go, the audience is into the storyline and they're interacting with you from their seats - sometimes even giving you lines," Flash said laughing.

"And the good thing about what we do sometimes is that we can do a segue. That is, we can feed into these interactions with the audience and then go right back to the script. That's the kind of flexibility you get, especially when performing for Jamaicans," he added.

Another benefit of being back home, Flash says, is the ability to introduce himself to a whole new generation of Jamaicans who know nothing about the character 'Jooky Jam', or those who haven't seen him in years.

"I think it's also a good opportunity for reintroducing myself to the people. Especially the five- and six-year-olds who are now 17 and 18 and 19. They haven't seen me in a while and I have a whole lot more laughs to give them," he said.

The Real Wife is expected to be shown at a number of venues across the US for the rest of the year, but 'Jooky' says there is a possibility the play could be returning to Jamaica in 2025.

"When we were in Jamaica in November, some heavy rains kept persons from coming out. So those persons should be on the lookout, as we may just come back next year. But we will, for sure, let them know," Flash told THE STAR.
