A WORKMANLIKE performance from defending champions Surrey Kings saw them claim their second win in as many games following a 46-run victory over the Cornwall Warriors in their Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Dream XI T10 encounter at Sabina Park yesterday.
After demolishing the Middlesex United Stars on Friday, the Kings made light work of the Warriors, who had won their opening fixture against the Surrey Royals.
Opting to take the first strike, the Kings chalked up their second 140-plus total, thanks to an unbeaten 62 from 28 balls from national player Brad Barnes, who hit a whopping eight sixes in his impressive knock.
He got good support from Kennar Lewis, who smashed a quickfire 50 from 19 balls with three fours and five sixes. The pair added 114 runs for the second wicket, this after Jermaine Blackwood was sent back by West Indies pacer Marquino Mindley for six.
Omar Samuels was the pick of the Warriors’ bowlers, with two for 25. However, their batters found the total too imposing, as they could only manage 95 for seven in their allotted 10 overs.
Sherdon Allen top scored with 30 against two wickets each for Shalom Parnell and Kenroy Williams.
Earlier, the Surrey Risers bowed into the competition with an exciting super-over win over the Middlesex Titans in the opening fixture of the doubleheader.
The Titans were sent in and posted 97 for three, with Matthew Morgan leading the way with 53 from 37 balls. The Risers, in reply, had the game to win with just two runs needed off the final ball, but schoolboy Milton Luckain could only manage a single which sent the game into a super over.
Earlier, captain Ramaal Lewis hit a top score of 64 from 24 balls to set up the dramatic chase which folded at 97 for six.
In the Super Over, Jamie Hay hit a couple of sixes to post a challenging total of 21, with the Titans only able to get seven runs for the loss of a wicket, thanks to a miserly over from national pacer Ojay Shields.
