JC Wins First Medal at Champs

Former champions Jamaica College have made an impressive start to their medal collection at the 113th ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Champs now on at the National Stadium.

The Old Hope Road based school bagged the quinella in the class two boys Long Jump as Michael Andre Edwards logged 7.18m for gold and team-mate Jaivar Cato silver with 6.85m

Amani Phillips of Kingston College completed the podium with 6.78m

JC also secured gold and bronze in the class three boys 1500m final….Cavel Nooks won in 4:20.79 seconds, ahead of St. Jago’s Phillip Palmer 4:21.42 and Bevin Davey of JC bronze 4:22.78.

JC also secured gold in the class two boys 1500m final thanks to a well timed run from Samuel Creary who won in 4:04.01 seconds.

Brian Kiprop of Kingston College prevented a JC sweep of the 1500m when he won the class one title in 3:56.81 seconds beating JC’s Kemmario Bygrave into second 3: 57.34 and third to Barrain Smith of Steths 3:59.08 seconds

Nahashon Ruto the pre race favourite from Kingston College who had to settle for silver in 4:04.03 seconds and bronze to Raheem Palmer of Alphansus Davis in 4: 08.57 seconds.

The girls class two 1500m crown went to Vere Tech’s Ashara Frater who won in 4: 42.76 seconds, she beat into second place Jovi Rose of Holmwood 4:43.59 and third went to Rhodonna Prince of Bellfield 4: 49.19 seconds.

Alikay Reynolds of Alphansus Davis landed the class three girls crown in 4: 43.92 seconds….Denique Palmer of Edwin Allen was second in 4: 44.37 and bronze went to Dalliah Fairweather of St. Mary High in 4: 46.74.

Pre race favourite Marcinho Rose of Kingston College lead all qualifiers into Thursday’s final of the Class-1 boys 400-metres at the ISSA Grace Kennedy/Boys and Girls Championship now underway at the National stadium.

Rose posted 46-point-93 seconds in winning Semi-final-2, His team mate Amal Glasgow won semifinal-1 in 47-point-45 seconds, with Omary Robinson of Jamaica College winning semi-final-3 in 47-point-60 seconds.

Meanwhile, Tonyan Beckford of Edwin Allen has the best time going into the semifinals of the girls’ race.

She posted 53-point-37 seconds in winning heat-3.

Kingston College again has the quickest time going into the final of the class-2 boys 400-metres.

Markel Smith ran 48-point-07 seconds in winning semi-final-1.

Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High going in the final of the girl’s race.

Douglas won semifinal-1 in 52-point-96 seconds.

The 100m finals all class will highlight the late evening session on today’s second day.
