Jamaican film premieres at Hampton’s International Film Festival

Norman/Norman, a feature documentary co-directed and shot by Jamaican filmmaker Gabrielle Blackwood, will have its world première at the 32nd Hampton’s International Film Festival (HIFF) in the World cinema section.

It will screen alongside Andrew Garfield & Florence Pugh’s We Live In Time; Emily Perez, starring Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana and RJ Cutler’s Martha Stewart documentary, among others.

The festival, known for world and regionally premièring films that have gone on to be Academy nominated ( Maestro, American Fiction, The Holdovers, Rustin), accompanied by star-studded guests, will also present industry awards to Liev Schreiber, Demi Moore and Malcolm Washington, while hosting in-person talks with Moore, Schreiber and Andrew Garfield.

Norman/Norman also co-directed and produced by British filmmaker Charles Warburton, details a young father’s journey in re-connecting with his mother’s murderer, his own father.

Focussing on themes associated with domestic violence against women and parental mental health, Norman/Norman, which started production in July 2021 in Jamaica, will première at HIFF on October 6 and has been selected to screen and regionally première at other international film festivals in the US, UK and Caribbean later this year.

“It’s a film we’ve been working on for the past three years. Norman/Norman will also have its UK/Euro première at the Cambridge Film Festival in late October and has also been selected and accepted to screen at The Bahamas International Film Festival in November in their ‘Spirit of Freedom’ documentary category,” Blackwood told The Gleaner.
